Picture this: you’re picking up your child from summer camp and he or she comes over with a face full of glitter, stage makeup, or face paint. It’s stubborn, almost impossible to remove with a paper towel and water. You get it off, but it wasn’t easy. That was a real life scenario facing Shay Mitchell, Esther Song, and Matte Babel as they tried to find products that were gentle, safe, and effective for their kids. That was an a-ha moment for the trio — and so came the idea for Rini.
Named after the Korean word for “children”, we’re made by parents and rooted in our collective cultures. For Esther, who grew up in Korea until age 11, selfcare was always a part of her upbringing, especially when it came to products that hydrated and protected the skin. As for Shay and Matte, who are of Filipino and Jamaican Black descent respectively, natural ingredients like coconut oil were an integral part of their beauty practices. With that in mind, our founders consulted experts from pediatricians to dermatologists to chemists and skincare experts before landing on Korea, a country known for their innovative, high quality products.
The result is a lineup of products that were designed to protect and cleanse delicate skin, plus have a bit of fun in the process. That panicked moment trying to remove face paint after Paloma’s birthday party? It led to the creation of our gentle wipes.
